Team News: Performance Tech Lites Driver Tristan Nunez Promotes “Don’t Text and Drive”

November 7, 2011 – In an effort to spread awareness of the dangers of texting and driving and promote the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda series, Performance Tech Motorsports and rookie driver Tristan Nunez have been hard at work. Completing a Halloween Safety Fair in Deerfield Beach two weeks ago, the duo was back at it again this weekend at the Seminole Paradise Hard Rock Hotel in South Florida.

With the event hosted by Crime Stoppers of Broward County and the Seminole Paradise Hard Rock Hotel, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were in attendance as well as Federal Air Marshals, United States Secret Service, US Coast Guard, US Customs and Border Control and the Florida Highway Patrol. In what is South Florida’s largest public safety expo, Nunez and Performance Tech Motorsports were happy with the turnout and success.

“Tristan is doing a great job in his promotional efforts with the anti texting and driving program and we are happy to help him along the way,” expressed Team Owner Brent O’Neill. “By having the Prototype Lites car and series information also on display, we are working on efforts to help Tristan promote the series and his cause.”

In only his second appearance, Tristan worked the crowds allowing show attendees to have the chance to get in the seat of his racecar. Posing for photos, signing autographs and spending time with teenagers and adults alike, Nunez would hand out informational brochures on the dangers of texting and driving as well as TristanNunez.com/Dnt Txt N Drv wristbands. Included in the brochures are the statistics on dangers of texting and driving, a hero card front cover and the 2012 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda series schedule.

“The car was a big hit at both shows so far,” explained Nunez, who is excited for the 2012 season. “It seems to be a real show stopper. Once the people stop by the car, I talk to them about racing as well as the dangers behind the wheel both on and off the racetrack. Since I just obtained my license, I notice the distractions on the road and put my phone away and try to relay this same message to each and every person. Providing them with information and a free wristband, I am hoping that they get on board with this campaign and help keep our roads safe.”

Nunez continued, “I need to thank Brent and the entire Performance Tech Motorsports squad for bringing the car out to each of these events. Without them, it would be a lot harder to do this kind of program. I am strongly committed to this campaign and to raise the awareness of the dangers of texting and driving by appearing at several events like this. I also plan on visiting high schools to give presentations and hand out information and wristbands as well as take these efforts on the road with me to each and every Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda event.”

Tristan Nunez would like to thank all his sponsors and supporters for a successful start to his motorsports career. A big thank you goes out to his Uncle Jim as well as the Skip Barber Racing School, Jonatan Jorge, JJRD Team and staff, Race Tech Development, Derek Bell, Jay Howard, Performance Tech Motorsports, Kayla Graham Racing, Homestead Karting as well as all his family and friends.
